Now, let\u2019s get the ball rolling! It\u2019s time to talk about some of the top stories around the globe, followed by a few explanations in Portuguese!<\/p>\n

O que ser\u00e1 que voc\u00ea precisa para sobreviver no meio do oceano, sem um barco? Um colete salva-vidas? Uma roupa t\u00e9rmica? Um sinalizador? E que tal uma bola? Bom, se voc\u00ea achou esquisita essa \u00faltima op\u00e7\u00e3o, escuta s\u00f3 a nossa primeira hist\u00f3ria.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, a man known as Ivan was swimming by the coast on a beach in Kassandra, Greece when powerful currents took him away from the shore.<\/p>\n

His friends quickly started to worry and asked the coastguards for help, but he was not found and was soon declared lost at sea. He was missing for eighteen hours and was fortunately rescued on Sunday, as he has physically recovered from this nightmare since then.<\/p>\n

And how did he survive 18 hours, you may ask? Well, soon after Ivan was washed away by the current, a small, half-inflated ball floated in his direction, a kid\u2019s toy. Miraculously, the ball gave him enough support to survive the long hours, including a night lost at sea.<\/p>\n

The story was all over the news in Greece and, believe it or not, the ball was identified by the mother of two boys, who said the kids had lost the ball while playing on a beach ten days earlier, 80 miles away!<\/p>\n

Sadly, Ivan\u2019s friend Martin who drifted away with him has not been found.<\/p>\n

Aqui no come\u00e7o n\u00f3s vimos a frase \u201ca man known as Ivan\u201d que \u00e9 igualzinha ao portugu\u00eas, \u201cum homem conhecido como Ivan\u201d, ent\u00e3o \u201cknown as\u201d quer dizer \u201cconhecido como\u201d. Voc\u00ea poderia dizer \u201cElvis was known as the king of Rock and Roll\u201d que \u00e9 \u201co Elvis era conhecido como o rei do Rock and Roll\u201d. Voc\u00ea pode adicionar \u201cknown as\u201d a v\u00e1rias estruturas, por exemplo: \u201cbetter known as\u201d mais conhecido como, \u201cformerly known as\u201d antes ou antigamente conhecido como, e \u201calso known as\u201d tamb\u00e9m conhecido como.<\/em>\u200d<\/p>\n

Voc\u00ea gosta do calor? Qual temperatura voc\u00ea considera calor demais? Vamos a pr\u00f3xima not\u00edcia pra ver como est\u00e1 a situa\u00e7\u00e3o e o calor l\u00e1 na Europa.<\/p>\n

The UK registered, on Monday the 18th, the third hottest day in the country\u2019s history, but they are not the only ones who are suffering from extreme heat. All of western Europe has been reaching atypical high temperatures, with wildfires across France and Spain, and a prolonged drought in Portugal.<\/p>\n

The wildfires have destroyed almost 20.000 acres of land and more than 1.100 people have died due to the heat, especially the elderly population.<\/p>\n

It has been said that some areas in England, Italy, and Belgium may reach more than 41 degrees Celsius over the next few days.<\/p>\n

The Belgium meteorology institute gave the following recommendations: \u201cdrink regularly, wear lighter clothes, spend the day in cooler rooms, monitor your health regularly, eat smaller portions of food, keep doors and windows closed to keep the heat out. Pets and animals also need extra care.”<\/p>\n

Oxford University Professor Myles Allen warned that such heatwaves will be inevitable if humanity doesn’t soon reduce its carbon emissions. “It’s got to be a regulation on the industry as a whole,” he says.<\/p>\n

Outro exemplo seria \u201cover the next few hours, the chef made more dishes\u201d que \u00e9 \u201cao longo das pr\u00f3ximas horas, o chef fez mais pratos\u201d. Ou \u201cI\u2019ll call you over the next few weeks\u201d, que \u00e9 \u201ceu vou te ligar ao longo das pr\u00f3ximas semanas.\u201d<\/em>\u200d<\/p>\n

And now it\u2019s time for our final story of the day! Do you enjoy going to the beach? Visiting rivers? Do you feel good after visiting those places? This story may help you understand why! Being close to nature has been associated with better health for hundreds of years: the Victorians knew this, recommending sea air as a treatment for sadness, and the French, who, for centuries, sent sick people to natural springs to treat their mental and physical health.<\/p>\n

And scientists are now finding out that areas near water are especially beneficial, more than green spaces in general.<\/p>\n

The first studies, which were done in the 80s, demonstrated that being close to water has intense calming effects on the body and mind, inducing positive emotions and even helping to reduce heart rate and blood pressure, and reducing negative moods and stress much more than green areas. Even something as simple as an urban fountain can have intense emotional effects.<\/p>\n

Marine scientists also remind the population that these benefits and people\u2019s access to them depend completely on preservation!<\/p>\n

\u200dEssas duplas de verbo + preposi\u00e7\u00e3o s\u00e3o muito importantes pois elas nem sempre fazem sentido, ainda mais se voc\u00ea pensar muito na preposi\u00e7\u00e3o sozinha. Mas cada verbo tem uma preposi\u00e7\u00e3o que \u00e9 sua duplinha. Outros exemplos s\u00e3o expect TO, look AT, laugh AT, concentrate ON e assim por diante. Mas calma, a medida que voc\u00ea for estudando ingl\u00eas, vai ser mais f\u00e1cil lembrar das duplas!<\/em>\u200d<\/p>\n
