Vocabulary Expansion<\/h4>\n

In this episode of Walk ‘n’ Talk Level Up,<\/strong> you learned some new structures and new expressions! You can continue studying here by checking out the dialogue, the expressions with written explanations, and repeating all the sentences!<\/p>\n

Dialogue:<\/h4>\n

Lisa:<\/em><\/strong> Hey, it\u2019s your turn to help the kids with their homework.<\/em><\/p>\n

Joe:<\/em><\/strong> Oh, no\u2026 Can you, please, help them out today? I\u2019m kind of swamped.<\/em><\/p>\n

Lisa:<\/em><\/strong> Ok, ok, I\u2019ll do it. But you have to do it sometime. I\u2019m starting to think that you\u2019re avoiding this because you\u2019re not into studying.<\/em><\/p>\n

Joe:<\/em><\/strong> Ugh, it\u2019s just that I hate mathematics. But I do have a lot of things to do, I swear.<\/em><\/p>\n

Lisa:<\/em><\/strong> Yeah, right. You said the same thing last time about geography\u2026 Babe, be honest.<\/em><\/p>\n

Joe:<\/em><\/strong> Ok! I hate studying, I hate math, geography, chemistry, biology\u2026 But I\u2019ll do it for the kids.<\/em><\/p>\n

New expressions and Vocabulary!<\/h4>\n

Swamped<\/p>\n

This is an expression that describes the idea of having many things to do, being generally busy. Even though it expresses the same idea as the word \u201cbusy\u201d, it is a little more intense. It\u2019s a good addition to your vocabulary so you don\u2019t always repeat the same word every time you want to say someone is full of things to do. Check out some more examples:<\/p>\n

My mom can\u2019t come today, she is really swamped.<\/em><\/p>\n

I know I promised to help you today, but I\u2019m really swamped with college stuff.
\nJack said he was swamped with work, but I saw him at the park.<\/em><\/p>\n

It\u2019s also common to use \u201cswamp\u201d, as a verb, to say what or who is causing someone to be\u00a0 overloaded with work or other activities. The structure is: swamp + [someone\/something] + with + [something]:<\/p>\n

My psychology professor is swamping me with work.<\/em><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t want to swamp her with new tasks.<\/em><\/p>\n

My manager swamps me with extra reports every Friday.<\/em><\/p>\n

<hlt>To be into<hlt><\/p>\n

This construction is extremely common in daily conversation. It indicates that someone is or isn\u2019t interested in an activity or subject, that it\u2019s something that the person enjoys or not:<\/p>\n

Mary is into chemical engineering, so she is studying very hard.
\nHe isn\u2019t into this kind of book, can you recommend another one?<\/em><\/p>\n

We went to the beach because our kids are really into building sandcastles.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

This construction can also be used to say that someone is romantically interested in someone else:<\/p>\n

I think I\u2019m into Taylor, she is so sweet. She is also very pretty, and kind<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Jane said that Tim is into Ruby! I can\u2019t wait to see what\u2019s going to happen.<\/em><\/p>\n

School subjects<\/p>\n

In the dialogue, you saw the names of some school subjects in English, so how about reviewing them and checking out some new ones?<\/p>\n
