Pois \u00e9 gente, estamos aqui de novo falando dessa figura que \u00e9 o Elon Musk. Depois de toda aquela conversa ele finalmente se tornou o novo propriet\u00e1rio do Twitter e, adivinha? J\u00e1 t\u00e1 dando o que falar. Vem comigo para gente ficar por dentro desse assunto.<\/p>\n

After all that happened, Elon Musk finally became the official owner of Twitter on the 29th of October, and the first two weeks quickly became a nightmare for the 7.5000 employees of the company.<\/em><\/p>\n

After giving little to no notice, Elon fired nearly half of all employees. The fired workers were suddenly cut off from the company\u2019s work systems even before knowing about their layoffs and soon started tweeting about their experiences.<\/em><\/p>\n

Many of them were part of the safety and trust teams, and even the curation team, which raised worries about what kind of content would now be free to circle the platform. Even the human rights team was cut from the company and advertisers quickly started to pull away due to this fear of misinformation and lack of security.<\/em>
\n<\/em>
\n<\/em>Employees who remain say it won\u2019t take long for critical structures to start falling apart.<\/em><\/p>\n

A few days later Musk proposed that users pay 8 dollars per month to become or to remain verified, claiming that he \u201chad no choice\u201d since the company was losing 4 million dollars a day. This, once again, raised concerns about identity theft and the possibility of fraud.<\/em><\/p>\n

Civil society leaders stated \u201cYou\u2019re really saying that the free speech of people who pay is more important than the free speech of people who can\u2019t,\u201d and another teased saying \u201cI\u2019m laughing at a billionaire trying to sell people the idea that \u2018free speech\u2019 is actually an $8\/mo subscription plan,\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n

Voc\u00ea percebeu que a gente usou aqui muitas palavras diferentes para falar sobre \u201cser demitido\u201d? Come\u00e7ando pelos verbos, que foram: to fire, to lay off e to cut off. A primeira frase na not\u00edcia foi:<\/p>\n

Era s\u00f3 o que faltava, agora qualquer pessoa pode ser verificada no Twitter, contanto que tenha dinheiro? Eu n\u00e3o sei como nem onde isso vai fazer sentido mas pensando bem, ser\u00e1 tem alguma coisa no Elon Musk que faz sentido? Bom, um dia quem sabe a gente encontre mas enquanto isso vamos para a nossa primeira dica de hoje!<\/p>\n

Que podemos traduzir como \u201cO Elon demitiu quase metade dos funcion\u00e1rios.\u201d O verbo \u201cfire\u201d quer dizer simplesmente \u201cdemitir\u201d. Mas a frase poderia ser tamb\u00e9m:<\/p>\n

Elon laid off<\/strong> nearly half of all employees.<\/p>\n

E teria o mesmo sentido, e tamb\u00e9m:<\/p>\n

Elon cut off<\/strong> nearly half of all employees.<\/p>\n

Mas \u00e9 importante saber que \u201ccut off\u201d \u00e9 um daqueles phrasal verbs que podem ter v\u00e1rios sentidos diferentes, aqui nesse contexto da not\u00edcia fica claro que o sentido \u00e9 de \u201cdemitir\u201d, mas em outras situa\u00e7\u00f5es ele pode significar \u201ccortar contato\u201d com algu\u00e9m, tipo, parar totalmente de falar com aquela pessoa, lembra a m\u00fasica \u201csomebody that I used to know?\u201d ent\u00e3o! L\u00e1 ele diz<\/p>\n

You didn\u2019t have to cut me off.<\/p>\n

Que tem o sentido de \u201cvoc\u00ea n\u00e3o precisava ter me cortado\/voc\u00ea n\u00e3o precisava ter sumido da minha vida\u201d. Mas o importante \u00e9 saber que to fire, to lay off e to cut off s\u00e3o todas formas de falar \u201cdemitir\u201d. E ainda existem outras, mas vamos deixar pra outro epis\u00f3dio!<\/p>\n

Lembra que na semana passada eu comentei que nada \u00e9 mais horr\u00edvel do que voc\u00ea sair para de divertir e acabar envolvido em uma trag\u00e9dia? Infelizmente foi exatamente isso que aconteceu, de novo, nessa not\u00edcia. Vamo l\u00e1:<\/p>\n

37-year-old Dennis Marin, a Brazilian man who lived a life without borders, shared his life on Instagram for 4 years as he traveled the world along with his adorable cat Lince in his Kombi.<\/em><\/p>\n

A large block of ice sadly crushed Dennis as he was walking into a cave in Ushuaia, Argentina, on Wednesday. The cave, known as Jimbo Cave, is accessible only by a nine-kilometer walk within Argentina\u2019s Tierra del Fuego National Park.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Brazilian tourist and several others walked by the sign reading \u201cAlert: Do Not Enter\u201d as they entered the cave. Moments later, a block of ice fell from the ceiling and landed on Dennis. Another tourist, standing farther from the entrance, captured the event on video. Different outlets have variously reported the total number of tourists in the group as six or seven.<\/em><\/p>\n

The victim\u2019s family is now fighting to get enough funds for the body to be transported back to Brazil, along with his cat and his van. Thankfully, Lince was asleep in the Kombi when the tragedy happened, and has been living with Dennis\u2019 friends, who took her in since the accident.<\/em><\/p>\n

Bem no final da not\u00edcia, o que aconteceu com a Lince? Olha s\u00f3 essa frase:<\/p>\n

O que ser\u00e1 que significa esse \u201cto take in\u201d? Esse \u00e9 um phrasal verb com um sentido bem legal de \u201cacolher\u201d algu\u00e9m que precisa de cuidados, pode ter tanto o sentido emocional de acolher algu\u00e9m, quanto o sentido f\u00edsico, de dar abrigo e comida para quem precisa. No caso da not\u00edcia, quem precisou foi a gata Lince. Vamos ver outros exemplos:<\/p>\n

Nina took me in when my parents were sick.<\/p>\n

A Nina me acolheu quando meus pais estavam doentes.<\/p>\n

I took in two abandoned puppies this weekend.<\/p>\n

Eu abriguei dois cachorrinhos abandonados esse final de semana.<\/p>\n

Resumindo: take in = abrigar, acolher<\/p>\n

Quem a\u00ed lembra de quando Backstreet Boys fazia o maior sucesso? Voc\u00ea que j\u00e1 fez parte dessa onde ou conhece algu\u00e9m que fez, j\u00e1 compartilha esse epis\u00f3dio.<\/p>\n

Bom, quem for muito jovem n\u00e3o vai lembrar e n\u00e3o vai saber bem de quem estamos falando aqui na nossa \u00faltima not\u00edcia, que tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 muito triste. Mas mesmo assim, vem ouvir:<\/p>\n

Aaron Carter, rapper, singer, and former child pop singer has died, at just 34 years of age. Aaron was the younger brother of Backstreet Boys\u2019 Nick Carter and was also known for his roles on TV such as \u201cLizzie McGuire\u201d on Disney Channel.<\/em><\/p>\n

The details of his death were not fully revealed apart from the fact he was found in his bathtub, and the topic of his mental health quickly came up.<\/em><\/p>\n

Media outlets remembered the struggles he said shared publicly in the past, including his battle with several mental health issues, multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety, and manic depression.<\/em><\/p>\n

His brother Nick, a member of the American boy band, wrote online: “I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know.”<\/em><\/p>\n

His post acknowledged that their brotherhood had not been stress-free, which culminated in the elder Carter filing a restraining order against Aaron in 2019. During the band\u2019s last concert, Nick was comforted by his bandmates, before the group went on to dedicate a performance of their song Breathe to their former touring companion.<\/em><\/p>\n

Aqui n\u00e3o \u00e9 bem uma express\u00e3o que vamos ver, nem uma dica de vocabul\u00e1rio. Vamos falar da estrutura da \u00faltima frase da not\u00edcia, onde chamamos o Aaron de \u201cformer touring companion\u201d, ou seja, de \u201cantigo parceiro de turn\u00eas\u201d.<\/p>\n

O ponto aqui \u00e9 que antes da palavra \u201ccompanion\u201d, voc\u00ea pode usar qualquer verbo na forma com ING para descrever do que aquela pessoa \u00e9 parceira. Como assim?<\/p>\n

Se eu saio para correr com a minha esposa, eu posso dizer que:<\/p>\n

\nA minha esposa \u00e9 minha parceira de corrida.<\/p>\n

Posso usar tamb\u00e9m a palavra partner:

At\u00e9 mesmo a palavra \u201cbuddy\u201d pode ser usada nesse contexto:<\/p>\n

\nO Jack \u00e9 meu parceiro de leitura.<\/p>\n

Mas fique atento porque algumas atividades n\u00e3o s\u00e3o t\u00e3o usadas na forma com ING, como o verbo study e o verbo work out, por exemplo. Eu diria:<\/p>\n

\nA Jessie \u00e9 minha parceira de estudos.<\/p>\n

A verdade \u00e9 que podemos usar atividades com ING antes de muitas palavras pra descrever a finalidade delas, tenta perceber isso nos nossos pr\u00f3ximos epis\u00f3dios.<\/p>\n
